In contrast, Jesus commended the poor widow:
As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. "I tell you the truth," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on." (Luke 21:1-4)
- most superior in reward are those given while healthy, niggardly, afraid of poverty and wish to become wealthy, (Sahih Bukhari 2.500)

- taking back alms (buying it back) is like swallowing own's vomit, Sahih Bukhari 2.567

It is said that when 'Aisha was slandered by Mistah who is Abu Bakr's kinsman, Abu Bakr ordered that monetary support for Mistah be maintained.
After the Battle of Hunayn and Siege of Taif, some Quraysh converted because their political world disintegrated. This apportioning of charity was meant to complete their integration and be comfortable with their decision. Also, those others who were on the brink of conversion at this time were included by this verse. These new/prospective were given as much as 100 camels, a sizeable wealth.
